The Supreme Court determined that corporations (note that we do not capitalize the word corporation as we do a person’s name) are people. The basic argument was that corporations have free speech under the First Amendment. Really political speech. People in an organization are individuals with individual brains and free speech individually. An organization is not alive with an organization brain.
Conservatively viewed, corporations were not created by God, do not worship God, do not have a soul, cannot be drafted into military service in time of war (more on this later), have a heartbeat (as per abortion criteria), nor have a life span and die biologically.
When we allow an organization to speak for many people, we take away individuality that could lead to the removing of individual rights for all Americans. One person, one vote, one set of rights. After all, this is a government of the people, by the people, and for the people not of the organization, by the organization and for the organization. Where would the people that do not belong to an organization fit?
Fairness! Each person has the same rights as another. As we have seen, corporations are able to raise more money and resources and thus have more influence than individual people. It’s like having a new country controlled by oranges for a collection of apples!
Now, the draft and military service and more… It is possible to ask a corporation to stop or halt doing what it normally does in peace to serve the nation in war. However, the sacrifice is nowhere near the same as a person’s sacrifice in war. Sure, the corporation may give up more resources, but it could also reap more financially during war. A corporation will not lose its biological life as a soldier might.
It all comes back to basic biology, God, and individuals. God made us. We made corporations or organizations. If we are to be a nation under God (not man) then basic laws for people should exist. Separate laws for corporations. Man made entities rights should not override or unbalance man’s rights.
